These are fun to make and yummy.  I’ve seen some people put red jam on the ends to make they really look severed and nasty but these are a little less messy and still yummy.

1 cup butter
1 cup confectioner’s sugar + 4 Tbsn granulated sugar
2 eggs (one separated)
2 tspn vanilla extract
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tspn baking powder
1 tspn salt
red food coloring
sliced almonds

Soak the almond sliced in red food coloring for a bit. And preheat oven to 325

Combine flour, baking powder and salt and set aside.  Mix butter and sugar in a mixer.  Seperate one egg and reserve the whites.  Combine yolk plus 2nd egg with vanilla, beat and add to your mix.  Gradually add in your dry ingredients.  Divide into 4 and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Form the dough into fingers (use one piece at a time, leaving the rest in the fridge) -about finger size. make sure to leave a lumpy knuckle in the middle and score with a knife to complete the effect. place on cookie sheet (greased or silicone) and continue until all dough is used.

Brush the finger tips with egg-white wash and embed a (now red) sliver of almond in each.  It’s ok if this is messy as it adds to the effect.

Bake until golden brown.  15-20 minutes

Happy Halloween
